The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter has airlifted a man to safety, after he became trapped in his car in floodwater, for more than a day.
It’s believed the man, aged in his seventies, had been stranded, on a highway near St George, since Sunday.
The rescue chopper was sent to the scene early this morning.
The LifeFlight SGAS Pilot was able to find a dry section of highway to land, approximately 500 metres around a bend, from the man’s submerged car.
The aeromedical team walked to the water’s edge and signalled a safe pathway to the man.
He was then able to make his way to dry land, before being flown to St George Hospital for further medical assessment.
