The Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has located an elderly man, who had been missing in a bushland area, for almost seven hours.
The man, aged in his eighties, had last been seen walking from an address east of Gin Gin, around 8am this morning (Sat 21st)
A ground search by Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and other emergency service personnel was already underway, when the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was asked to assist, at 10.30am.
The chopper searched the rural area for almost two hours, scouring bushland and private properties, without any sighting.
The crew returned to base, then re-deployed at approximately 1.30pm, as concern grew for the missing man’s safety.
After flying for just over an hour, the chopper crew finally caught sight of the man, near a roadside, three kilometres from where he had last been seen.
The chopper hovered overhead and the crew radioed QPS, directing officers to the location.
The man was taken to the emergency service command area, where he was treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics.
