One of the LifeFlight Foundation’s most generous donors, Geraldine Underhill, has been honoured, with an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter making a commemorative flight, over her funeral service at Mount Cotton.
Geri and her late husband, Jeffrey, donated more than $1 million to the charity during their lives, because they felt so passionately about the vital work RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crews perform.
The pair’s interest in aviation started at a young age, but they didn’t become aware of the Queensland aeromedical organisation, until they were asked to buy an RACQ LifeFlight Rescue bear, by a member of the charity’s call centre.
In the years that followed, the couple formed a strong passion for RACQ LifeFlight Rescue’s community service, which brings aviation and emergency medical care together.
“Geri and Jeffrey believed that every person in Queensland should be afforded equal healthcare and were champions of LifeFlight, because of our capability to do that 24/7, 365 days a year,” LifeFlight Director of Community Development, Leanne Angel, said.
The couple committed so much support to LifeFlight, a helicopter was named in their honour, several years ago.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Geri Underhill’s funeral (held 13 May 2020) was a small affair, but RACQ LifeFlight Rescue was able to show its appreciation, in a socially distant way, with a commemorative flyover.
“They were such an community-minded couple and were very well know for their generosity,” Ms Angel said.
“I’m sure under different circumstances Geri’s funeral would have been much bigger.
“It’s nice to be able to honour her, in our own special way.”
Jeff and Geri had discussed a significant legacy gift, in their will, which will help RACQ LifeFlight Rescue save Queensland lives, into the future.
