The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a woman to hospital, after she was injured in a light plane crash, in the Banana region.
The chopper was one of two rescue aircraft tasked to the incident, with the Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) chopper also called into action, shortly before 6pm Sunday (23rd August).
It’s believed the light aircraft lost power and when the pilot tried to land it, it clipped a tree and crashed nose-first.
The plane was reportedly on a local flight.
Both rescue helicopters were tasked by Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)
The SGAS helicopter was the first of the two choppers to arrive at the scene and was met by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics.
Due to the accident scene being difficult to access by helicopter, paramedics drove the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and LifeFlight Paramedic closer to the crash site, while the pilot hovered above to guide them.
The medical crew then worked with QAS paramedics to treat a female passenger, aged in her 60s, for serious head and leg injuries.
She was transferred to the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter and airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital, in a serious condition.
