The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew has winched an injured man out of a forest, north-west of Woodford, after he fell around six metres while walking.
It’s believed the man, an experienced walker aged in his seventies, was rock-hopping up a creek, when he slipped down a ledge and landed in a rockpool.
He was able to get himself out of the water, but couldn’t move any further.
A woman he was walking with called triple zero.
The rescue chopper was tasked around 1.20pm (Sunday 27 Sept).
Once the crew located the pair, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic were winched down to the scene.
The woman was winched up to the helicopter first, with the assistance of the paramedic and was flown to a nearby day use area, while the doctor continued treating and stabilising the man.
The helicopter then returned to the scene to winch the patient up on a stretcher.
The rescue crew performed a total of eight winches throughout the mission.
The man was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition.
He suffered multiple injuries, including suspected spinal injuries.
