LifeFlight SGAS airlifts young boy injured in motocross crash

The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has flown a young boy to hospital, after he was seriously injured in a motocross incident on the Southern Downs, this afternoon.

It’s believed the primary school-aged boy was attempting a jump at a motocross track, when he lost control of the motorbike.

The bike then reportedly fell on top of him, crushing his leg.

The rescue chopper was tasked to the track, just after 4pm (Friday, 23rd September).

The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter pilot landed the aircraft near the scene, where the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and LifeFlight Paramedic met with local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics to treat the patient.

The young boy was suffered a suspected broken leg.

He was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition, accompanied by a relative.

The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission, as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.

With aircraft based in Roma and Toowoomba, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter service is fully funded by the four SGAS partners.
