Philanthropist named as LifeFlight’s newest Vice Patron

Well-known Sunshine Coast philanthropist and generous supporter of RACQ LifeFlight Rescue, Jocelyn Walker, has accepted the honour of becoming the first Vice Patron for the Sunshine Coast and South Burnett region.

She was anointed to the role after four years as founding Chair of the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Sunshine Coast and South Burnett Regional Advisory Committee and seven years as a Company Member.

“I feel truly honoured to be offered this new role in recognition of my long history with LifeFlight,” said Ms Walker.

“Being an inaugural position makes it rather special for me and I look forward to continuing to support the advocacy and leadership of this vital service across our region.

“I support LifeFlight because I truly believe this service is one that is very much needed in our region.

“On average, at least one to two missions are conducted every day from the Sunshine Coast Rescue base.”

As Vice Patron, Ms Walker will continue to work with the Regional Advisory Committee and Sunshine Coast base to foster strong community connections.

“Jocelyn has been an invaluable supporter of RACQ LifeFlight Rescue over the years, and was the guiding force behind projects which provided community funding for the major upgrade of the Sunshine Coast base three years ago,” said LifeFlight Board Chairman Hon Rob Borbidge AO.

“Most recently, Jocelyn was vital in bringing the community together to raise funds for a $54,300 Zephyr Hoist Tool for the base and three Night Vision Goggle helmets.

“She tirelessly champions RACQ LifeFlight Rescue within the Sunshine Coast and South Burnett communities and will continue to do so in her new role as Vice Patron.”

Ms Walker said she was enormously grateful to community supporters who had allowed such projects to become a reality and would use her new role to further promote LifeFlight’s world-class aeromedical care.

“I hope to create donation opportunities within our community to further cover the costs of lifesaving equipment such as stretchers, electronic flight bags, winching harnesses and rescue baskets, along with maintaining valued partnerships,” said Ms Walker.

Following Ms Walker’s appointment, fellow founding member and Deputy Chair, Brendon Murray, will move into the role of Sunshine Coast and South Burnett Regional Advisory Committee Chair.

LifeFlight Australia’s Patron is Queensland Governor, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM.
