The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has flown a man to hospital after he was bitten by a snake, during a motorbike ride in the Maranoa region.
It’s believed the man, aged in his 20s, was riding the bike on a private property when he ran over the reptile.
It then turned around and struck his ankle, leaving several puncture marks.
He was able to ride back to a house and call for help.
The rescue chopper was called into action, shortly after 9am.
The LifeFlight SGAS Pilot landed the aircraft on the property, where local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics were already on scene.
The LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Flight Paramedic assisted in treating the patient for envenomation.
He was flown to Roma Airport in a stable condition, where QAS paramedics took him to Roma Hospital by road.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
With aircraft based in Roma and Toowoomba, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter service is fully funded by the four SGAS partners.
