The Sunshine Coast LifeFlight helicopter crew has airlifted an elderly man to hospital, after he was injured in a quad bike crash, in the South Burnett region.
The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter was called to the scene at a private property, just after 4:30pm (Saturday 7th Jan).
The pilot was able to land the aircraft in a nearby paddock.
It’s believed the man, aged in his eighties, had been riding the quad bike around the property, when he drove through a creek and up an embankment.
It is believed he lost control of the bike, which then rolled on top of him, trapping him.
Family members started to search for the man when he hadn’t returned after several hours. They found him pinned under the quad bike.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic assisted local QAS paramedics on scene, in treating the patient for multiple traumatic injuries.
He was then flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission Helicopter performed this mission. The aircraft is part of LifeFlight Australia’s commercial operation, which supports the work of the community helicopter fleet, through our profit-for-purpose model.
It is currently based at the Sunshine Coast and is rotated through our community bases from time to time, when operationally required.
