LifeFlight celebrates 30 year partnership with RACQ

This year, we mark 30 years of partnership with RACQ, which has helped us save thousands of lives.

RACQ officially became the naming rights sponsor of our flagship community helicopter rescue service in 1993, recognising the importance of our aeromedical service to Queenslanders across the state.

One of those Queenslanders is Jamie Jenkins whose life was impacted by the work of our RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crews.

She was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, on a leisurely Sunday ride at Mount Mee, when another motorcycle crashed into her, leaving her with a brain injury and eight broken bones.

“I do believe if it wasn’t for RACQ LifeFlight Rescue, I would not be here today.”

In the last 30 years, our partnership has gone from strength to strength, and we are delighted to have reached such a significant milestone. RACQ Community and Sponsorship Manager, Melanie Calzavara, agrees,

“The service LifeFlight provides to Queenslanders is invaluable and I feel incredibly proud to be honouring our 30th anniversary with RACQ LifeFlight Rescue this year, and I know our members feel proud too.”

“Seeing the statistics of how many people the rescue crews are helping – sometimes close to 7,000 people a year – really solidifies why we have continued our support for so long,” she said.

That desire to help people motivates not only our partnerships, but also our staff. When Pete Marris joined us in 1998 as a Pilot, he was already passionate about flying but making a difference to the lives of Queenslanders added a totally different level of job satisfaction.

“To be able to do that while doing something that I am passionate about makes me feel very lucky.”

Thanks to the support of RACQ, we have been able to help people like Jamie when they’ve needed us most and we continue to save the lives of Queenslanders whenever and wherever they are.
