The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has airlifted an elderly woman to hospital, after the four-wheel drive she was a passenger in rolled in the Maranoa Region.
The rescue chopper crew was tasked to assist shortly after 1pm (Friday 15th September) and the pilot was able to land on the highway, which had been closed by Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers.
Once on scene, the aeromedical team worked with local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics to treat the patient.
It’s believed the 4WD the woman was travelling in was overtaking another vehicle when the driver lost control and rolled several times, coming to rest on the side of the road.
The woman, aged in her 80s, suffered injuries to her head and chest and was loaded into the rescue helicopter and flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
