The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has airlifted two people to hospital, after they were injured in a boating incident in the Bundaberg region on Saturday evening (Saturday 17th Feb).
The rescue pilot and crew were tasked to the scene just before 9pm.
It’s believed four people were injured after their tinnie struck a submerged rock, throwing all of them into a creek south of Bundaberg.
The crew used Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and were able to locate the two men and two women who had managed to climb back into the boat and signaled the chopper by flashing a light.
A radio was lowered to the boat so the chopper crew could communicate with them to arrange a location to rendezvous, as there was no suitable landing area near where they were.
The crew directed them to a location up stream, where the pilot was able to safely land.
Once the rescue crew met with the group, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic accessed and treated the patients before other QAS units, Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel arrived.
A female patient aged in her 20s suffered a head injury and lacerations to her arm and was airlifted to the Bundaberg Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A male in his 20s was also airlifted to the Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition, suffering a broken collarbone.
The remaining two patients were road transported by QAS to hospital.
