The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew tonight winched two stranded hikers from a mountain in the Scenic Rim region.
The female hikers in their 20s had ascended to the top of the mountain late in the day when the weather turned, and they set off an EPIRB (emergency position-indicating radio beacon).
The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked at 5.10pm and located the hikers on a cliff top.
A rescue crewman was winched down to the hikers before both hikers were winched back one at a time to the helicopter.
The helicopter then landed at the base of the mountain where they were assessed by the LifeFlight critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic.
Both patients were unharmed and were taken to their vehicle by community members.
