The LifeFlight Board brings together respected leaders with a diverse range of medical, aviation, business, financial and philanthropic experience. The Board reflects the LifeFlight Foundation’s values and works to ensure integrity, transparency and accountability at all times while shaping the direction and future sustainability of LifeFlight’s cause.
Stewart Morland has been involved in the Australian Energy sector for more than 25 years.
Since his first venture in the Eromanga Basin in the 1990s Stewart has been at the forefront of the upstream development in Australia’s oil and gas sectors. This involvement led to the growth and evolution of the IOR Group into one of Australia’s leading suppliers of fuels and storage systems for fuel in the coal seam and shale gas sectors. His company has also established a network of unmanned refuelling stations throughout Australia, and operates an oil refinery in the Eromanga Basin.
Stewart’s additional business interests include transport, aviation and marine charter and computer software and hardware development.
Stewart has a strong commitment to philanthropic endeavours which saw him sit as Chairman of LifeFlight for seven years from 2006; a time of service expansion and diversification within the not-for-profit organisation. During his tenure LifeFlight responded to a clear community need in South West Queensland, establishing a helicopter rescue base in Toowoomba. It was to become a 24 hour service in 2010. LifeFlight aeromedical bases were also introduced into the Surat Basin and Gladstone regions, servicing growing communities throughout regional Queensland.
Stewart is married to Tracey and they have two adult children.
Hon. Rob Borbidge AO
The Honourable Robert Borbidge AO became Chairman of LifeFlight in July 2013 after the company merged with the Sunshine Coast Helicopter Rescue Service.
The 35th Premier of Queensland, Rob Borbidge led a minority National Liberal Coalition Government from 1996 to 1998. He served in senior Cabinet posts, was Deputy Leader and Leader of the Opposition before retiring in 2001 after serving more than 20 years as the Member for Surfers Paradise.
Rob is Chairman of a number of business boards and was appointed to Chair the Legacy Committee for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He is a Trustee of the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
His passion for education sees him as a member of the Council of Griffith University, Chair of the Board of Advice for the Institute for Glycomics, a Board member of the Griffith Foundation and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of Griffith (incorporated in the United States).
In 2001 he was awarded a Centenary Medal, in 2004 he was made an Honorary Doctor of Griffith University and in 2006 appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
He is married to Jennifer and they have two children, James and Megan.
Ashley van de Velde

Driven to provide rapid aeromedical retrieval services to as many people as possible, Ashley has devoted his life to LifeFlight’s mission and vision and has been CEO of the organisation for more than two decades.
Ashley measures success by the number of lives LifeFlight has helped over the years, and will help in the future.
With the organisation from the beginning, the then Queensland Water Police Officer used to volunteer as an aircrewman back in 1981.
Since then Ashley has been responsible for LifeFlight’s growth and diversification nationally and internationally and is committed to ensuring quality medical care is available to local and remote communities.
One of Australia’s most experienced CEO’s in the complex aeromedical industry; Ashley is a master at developing solutions in challenging situations. His core belief is helping build stronger communities alongside government and industry.
The combination of these skills and his extensive operational knowledge, help ensure LifeFlight’s long-term sustainability.
Jan established JTA Australia following a successful public sector career as Queensland’s Director of Fair Trading and Commissioner for Consumer Affairs.
Since leaving the public sector she has been appointed to the boards of statutory authorities by both Coalition and ALP governments and has chaired inquiries for Queensland and Federal Government Ministers.
Jan has been an interviewer and presenter in mainstream media, a newspaper columnist, a published author, and has worked with United Nations agencies (e.g. the Food and Agriculture Organisation and the World Health Organisation)). She has also been an independent non-executive director on a number of commercial and not-for-profit boards in the private sector. She has worked on extraordinarily complex projects spanning a wide range of sectors but particularly in water, oil and gas, energy, utilities, infrastructure and coal seam gas and coal. Many of the projects her company undertakes are in regional and rural Australia.
Her particular expertise lies in strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, community consultation and education and awareness. She understands the information needs of key stakeholders, the broader community and the media. She has worked on brand development, marketing and public acceptance across many industry sectors and brings to each task both empathy and emotional intelligence.
Jan has also facilitated complex workshops and chaired public meetings with thousands of attendees and managed stakeholder forums with diverse views to achieve informed consensus about proposed projects. She has been a successful non-executive director (and chair) for organisations such as the RACQ, Ports Corporation Queensland, Wyatt Gallagher (Boston-based), Queensland Dairy Authority, Queensland Competition Authority, RSPCA, Community Housing Grants Board etc.
Recently she was recruited by a global training company to present master classes in stakeholder engagement in South East Asia.
Jan has wide experience across numerous industry sectors in Queensland, and has worked for government agencies in this state as well as in Western Australia and South Australia. She has extensive networks, is an excellent negotiator and mediator, and works well as part of group dynamics.
Travis Schultz is the principal of Travis Schultz Law and has expertise as a commercial litigation and personal injury lawyer in the areas of workers’ compensation, motor vehicle and public liability law.
Travis’ career has seen him become managing partner of an established firm (by the age of 27) and then continued to grow that entity to a total staff of 76 at the time it was sold in 2014.
His service to the profession includes two terms as president of the Sunshine Coast Law Association, life member of the Sunshine Coast Legal Service, member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of University of the Sunshine Coast, and member of the QLS Personal Injuries Specialist Accreditation Committee and Accident Compensation Committee.
In the community, Travis has served on numerous charity committees including Wishlist, SunnyKids, Coast to Bay Housing, Cystic Fibrosis Queensland, as a board member for Sunshine Coast Turf Club and chairman of the Foundation of Matthew Flinders Anglican College.
Travis currently serves as a Board Member of the Sunshine Coast Turf Club, as a Board Member of Lifeflight Foundation, as Deputy Chair of the Board of Matthew Flinders Anglican College and as Chairman of the Matthew Flinders Foundation. He is a life member of the Sunshine Coast Community Legal Service, is a QLS Senior Counsellor and remains involved in a range of charities and not for profit groups such as Wishlist and Sunnykids. He continues to write a weekly wine column for the Life & Style Magazine (published by Newscorp) in the weekend edition of the Sunshine Coast Daily.
Travis is highly motivated to ensure access to justice is accessible for everyone in the community.

Allan was born and bred on the Gold Coast and is very passionate about it and in particular Southport with a desire to assist in the future development and direction of the CBD into a sophisticated place to work and live. To this end, Allan is a current member of both the Southport Chamber of Commerce and the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce, along with being a current Board member of the Southport Chamber of Commerce.
Allan has very strong relationships with business owners and professionals on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and throughout South-East Queensland.
Allan is also involved in a number of other not for profit organisations, being a long term Board member of the Friends of All Saints Limited, current Treasurer of the Australia Israel Chamber of Commerce, member of The Australian Industry Trade College and the Carbine Club of Queensland.
Allan is also a founding director of the Lifelight Foundation.
