The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has airlifted an elderly man to safety, after he become stranded on a sandbank, just south of Hervey Bay.
It’s believed the man, who is aged in his 70s, had been fishing in his tinnie, when it ran-aground
The fisherman called for help, after he had reportedly been stranded for six hours.
The rescue chopper was activated by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) just before 5:30pm (Friday 21/01).
Once on scene, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew was able to spot the fisherman straight away, due to him wearing high visibility clothing.
The pilot landed the chopper on dry sand close to the stranded boatie, before airlifting him to a nearby boat ramp, where he was reunited with his wife.
The man was uninjured, and did not require any medical treatment.
