The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched a hiker who was injured while descending from Mount Tibberoowuccum.
The woman had been climbing the mountain’s summit, when upon walking back down, slipped and injured her ankle.
The rescue helicopter was called into action after 4pm today (Sun, 18th June) to assist local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel, who were already at the scene.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue aeromedical crew carefully assessed the difficult terrain and other factors.
It was decided a winch operation was the safest retrieval method.
The QAS Flight Paramedic was first lowered to the mountainside, where they worked with the paramedics on the ground to treat, then secure the patient.
The aircraft hovered overhead, before the Flight Paramedic and patient were hoisted into the helicopter.
The injured hiker was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, suffering ankle injuries.
