The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has flown a seriously injured teenager to hospital, after she was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the Somerset region, this morning.
She was reportedly travelling in a car with two other people, when it crashed into a pole, causing the occupants to be thrown from the vehicle, which then burst into flames.
The rescue chopper was tasked to assist at approximately 7am.
The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter pilot landed the aircraft on a private property close to the scene of the crash, where the aeromedical crew worked with local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics to treat the patient for multiple injuries.
Local Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel and Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and the QGAir helicopter were also in attendance.
The teenager was flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition, under the care of the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
With aircraft based in Roma and Toowoomba, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter service is fully funded by the four SGAS partners.
