The Sunshine Coast LifeFlight helicopter crew has flown two teenagers to hospital after the e-scooter they were riding crashed into a car last night.
It’s believed the two high school-aged children, a male and a female, were both riding the same e-scooter down a Sunshine Coast beachside suburb hill when they collided with the vehicle.
The rescue helicopter was called into action at 6pm (Weds 03 January), to assist the LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic, who had already travelled to the scene via road.
The aeromedical crew assisted local QAS paramedics to treat the teens as Queensland Police Service personnel (QPS) closed off the street.
The pilot landed the helicopter on vacant land nearby.
The male teenager was flown from the scene in a serious condition to Queensland Children’s Hospital.
He suffered several multiple traumatic injuries.
The LifeFlight crew then later airlifted the female teenager, who was in a serious condition, from Sunshine Coast University Hospital to Queensland Children’s Hospital.
She also suffered several multiple traumatic injuries.
The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission Helicopter performed this mission. The aircraft is part of LifeFlight Australia’s commercial operation, which supports the work of the community helicopter fleet, through our profit-for-purpose model.
It is currently based at the Sunshine Coast and is rotated through our community bases from time to time, when operationally required.
