The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has flown a woman to hospital, after she was injured in a motorbike crash involving a group of kangaroos, in the Southern Downs region, this afternoon.
It’s believed the woman, who is aged in her 50s, had been riding in a group, when a bunch of kangaroos crossed the road in front of her, causing her to crash into one.
The rescue chopper was called into action just before 12:30pm (Saturday, 20th of May).
The group of riders were able to provide her with first aid, before emergency services arrived.
The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter pilot landed the aircraft on a stretch of road, near where the incident had occurred, which had been closed by Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers.
The aeromedical crew met with local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics to treat the patient for several injuries, including to her chest, shoulder and broken wrist.
She was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
Just yesterday (Friday, 19th of May), the Brisbane-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew airlifted a man to hospital from the Southern Downs, after he was injured in a dirt bike riding incident.
It’s believed the man, who is aged in his 50s, had been attempting a jump at a track, when he fell from his bike.
The rider was treated for a suspected spinal injury before being flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
