LifeFlight Rescue chopper fleet joins flood emergency response

Three of RACQ LifeFlight Rescue’s helicopters have so far joined the multi-agency response to the ongoing flood emergency in South East Queensland.

The Bundaberg-based rescue helicopter crew was tasked early this morning (Sat 26th) by Queensland Police Service (QPS) to provide assistance from the air, in the effort to find a man who is suspected to have possibly been swept away in flood waters in the Gympie region, near Goomboorian.

The helicopter crew made multiple sweeps of the area as QPS and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) swift water rescue teams searched in the water and on the ground.

The search is ongoing.

As this mission was underway, both the Toowoomba and Sunshine Coast-based helicopters were tasked to respond to people suffering medical emergencies, who can’t reach help, due to roads being cut off by flood waters.

Late yesterday afternoon (Fri 25th) the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter airlifted a teenager, as she was suffering a serious medical condition and could not be reached by ambulance due to severe flooding.

Those missions were tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland, on behalf of Queensland Health.

The Sunshine Coast rescue crew performed that mission (Fri 25th) immediately after airlifting a family of five and their pet fox terrier to safety, after their property was completely cut off by rising water.
