Mate becomes makeshift medic after motorbike crash

The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter has airlifted a man after he was in injured in a motorbike crash this afternoon.

The motorcyclist, aged in his 20s, was riding with his friend – about to go camping in a national park – when he was flung over his handlebars.

The LifeFlight SGAS chopper was tasked just after 4pm this afternoon (Thursday 7th April) to the Maranoa Region, when the man’s friend called triple zero.

He managed to put the patient’s arm into a makeshift sling before the aeromedical crew arrived.

The pair was sitting in their camping chairs when the chopper landed nearby.

The injured motorbike rider suffered a fracture to his shoulder and was flown to Roma in a stable condition.

The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter performed the mission, as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
