Motorist airlifted after crashing 5 metres down embankment

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a young woman to hospital, after her car plunged down an embankment, late this afternoon.

It’s believed she was driving north-east of Gympie, when she lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, crashing down the embankment and into a tree.

All emergency services were at the scene and worked to free the woman, who was believed to have been trapped for some time.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper landed in a nearby clearing.

The aeromedical team used ropes, set up by Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) officers, to climb down to the crash site.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Flight Paramedic, worked alongside paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service to treat the driver, aged in her twenties, for head injuries.

She was airlifted, in a stable condition, to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

It’s the second motor vehicle accident the Sunshine Coast crew attended today.

Earlier, the rescue helicopter airlifted a man to hospital after he was critically injured in a motorbike crash, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

It’s believed he lost control of his bike and smashed into the guard rail.

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was as sent to the scene shortly before 11am (May 13).

The aeromedical team and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics treated the man, aged in his fifties, for multiple injuries.

He was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, in a critical condition.
