The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has flown a teenager to hospital after she was pinned under a 4WD for almost two hours this afternoon.
The aeromedical crew was tasked to a private property in the Goondiwindi region just before midday.
It is believed three teenage family members were in the car, on their way to deliver lunch to a relative, when the driver lost control on soft ground.
The vehicle swerved off the road and then rolled over once, pinning one of the girls by her legs until Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) crews were able to free her.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and New South Wales (NSW) paramedics were at the scene.
It is believed the other two teenagers in the vehicle were able to free themselves.
The LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and Flight Paramedic were dropped at the private property and treated the pinned patient for lower body and chest injuries, while the air crew flew to a nearby aerodrome to refuel.
The helicopter returned and the girl was airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
QAS paramedics drove one of the other girls to Goondiwindi Hospital.
The third child was uninjured.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
