Both Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Rescue helicopters were called in, to airlift an elderly couple to hospital, after they were injured in a car rollover in the Gympie region.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue and LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopters were tasked to the incident, which happened on a private property at approximately 3.30pm.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics treated the patients at the scene, before transporting them to the waiting helicopters, which had landed at a nearby sporting field.
A woman, aged in her eighties, was in a serious condition, when she was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
A man, who is also aged in his eighties, was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter performed the mission, as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
