The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has performed a winch rescue of a seriously ill crewman from a bulk carrier, near the Fraser Coast this morning (Tuesday 14th November).
The crew was tasked to the scene by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) about 11.30am, and located the ship, about 30 miles east of K’gari (Fraser Island).
Once the rescue helicopter was hovering over the vessel, the crew winched the rescue crew officer and the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic down to the vessel.
The unwell man, aged in his 30s, was treated for abdominal pain.
After the patient and chopper crew had been winched back onboard the rescue helicopter, the man was flown to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
